Strategic Partnerships
Astraea is partnered with the networks highlighted below.
Founded in May 2018, Equita Financial Network was born out of a need to fuel business success while empowering other women in the financial services industry. Equita became the first platform solely focused on women-led financial planning firms, designed to encourage women to make the leap into launching their own practice and provide solutions to support them every step of the way. And importantly, Equita is a way for like-minded women to not only share resources and run their business at an affordable cost, but to also share ideas on everything from best practices to help with questions regarding client issues.
NAPFA is a network for fee-only planners to share ideas, further their education through well-curated continuing education, and host conferences to continue to enhance the quality of service in the financial planning field.
Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) is a formal recognition of expertise in the areas of financial planning, taxes, insurance, estate planning, and retirement saving.
Owned and awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., the designation is awarded to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board's initial exams, then continue ongoing annual education programs to sustain their skills and certification. See Laura's certificate here.
A little bit about Laura:
Laura is a wife, mother, financial planner, and artist. She is passionate about financial information being accessible to anyone, as it is one of the largest sources of stress in the average American.
As a working mother she has little spare time, but does continue to make artwork (some favorite pieces featured to the right), and volunteers with Savvy Ladies. She is active in the East Grand Rapids babysitting cooperative and believes building community is one of the most important support systems to focus on. Food is a love languge, and if you're ever down, she'll likly be dropping of (or sending) you a meal.
Causes she supports are regularly donating blood, the YWCA, Planned Parenthood, and the YMCA. Laura currenly lives in Reston, VA, but has lived in (and maintains many friends in):
Grand Rapids, Michigan,
Richland, Washington, and
Syracuse, NY.
A little bit about Steve
Steve graduated from both Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and Washington State University with an MBA (emphasis on international business). He is currently working towards obtaining CFP® certification.
For over a decade, he has worked closely with financial advisors with a focus on the operations and compliance of the business. Throughout this time, Steve noticed a troubling gap—many advisors lacked the moral and ethical integrity he believed should be central to the industry, which often felt dollar-focused and exclusive. He recognized the need for empathy, inclusivity, and kindness, values he felt were missing in financial services.
A pivotal moment for Steve came when he stepped in to help his mother with her financial accounts. Her advisor had neglected her investments for years, leaving her in a challenging situation. When confronted, her advisor acted as though everything was fine and was less than helpful in figuring out what went wrong. Steve advocated for her, securing both remediation and reimbursement for the oversights and neglect of her accounts. This experience motivated Steve to help make meaningful change within the industry and to prioritize trust and doing the right thing in financial advising.
Steve and Laura first collaborated for several years at agrowing financial firm, where they discovered their shared perspectives and values. With a strong commitment to empathy, kindness, humor, and inclusivity, Steve always knew he didn’t fit the traditional finance stereotype. Now, he’s
thrilled to reunite with Laura, bringing his core values to the forefront once again.Today, Steve is a dedicated husband, proud dog dad, second generation immigrant (Austria), and aspiring world traveler. He is driven by a passion to simplify the complexities of finance and to build an inclusive and welcoming space for all clients.
